Fred's
philosophy
|

|
Our
philosophy is deep and profound!
- We
are believers in participation; we should enjoy making the
music just as much as others should enjoy listening or dancing
to it!
- We
believe in passing on the tradition. Beginners are always
welcome to come and sit in at appropriate gigs and pick
up our tunes and style.
- We
also believe that good dancers make better musicians! Most
of us are involved in various forms of dancing, and are
active in morris
or clog
or classical
Indian groups, as well as general community folk dancing.
Members of the band dance with the Foresters
Morris and Greenwood
Step Clog teams.
-
We believe that playing style is important. See the recommendations
in the document Playing for Folk Dancing,
based on an original leaflet from the
EFDSS.
We play primarily for dancing, and work with Joy
Foxley as MC most of the time, and John Shaw at other
times.
More than most ceilidh dance bands, we also spend part of
the evening playing items to listen to between dances, while
dancers get their breath back.
We can even do complete evenings to listen to, if required!
We
sing traditional British folk songs.
