Jersey dance 1

Inter-Cultural dialogue - Jersey Educational tour - 30th April to 5th May 2007

The offer for this tour came as a result of one of the teachers at a Jersey school suddenly discovering our website.

Jersey dance 2
With the help of Kalithasan Chandrasegaram, we delivered Indian dance workshops in a number of Jersey schools. On each of the four days the host school invited classes of students from other nearby schools.

The tour was a great success. We have already received an invitation to return next year.

From the Jersey Evening Post Friday 11th May 2007

Pupils from Jersey's primary schools have been learning the art of Indian dance.

Four schools - d'Auvergne, Grouville, Mont Nicolle and Grands Vaux - hosted other primary schools from their areas and welcomed professional Indian dancers and teachers, Bisarkha Sarker and Kali Dass.

The week was organised by early years adviser Yasmine Thebault, whose department paid for the pair to visit the Island.

D'Auvergne reception teacher Paul Joumeaux said it had been an enjoyable experience for the children. 'The dancers did hand dances with aU the children and taught some of them full dances which they showed off at the end of the day,' he said. 'It has been absolutely fantastic. It's been a great week and some of the children have been mesmerised by their dancing.'

Waiting

"Waiting" is an on-going project in conjunction with Liverpool Primary Care Trust. Chaturangan provided a creative approach responding to the differing needs of people in ‘waiting’ settings. We worked with artists experienced in working sensitively with people in different situations. The project comprised four different elements (dance, music, story-telling and visual arts) and left a legacy in the form of a film "Precious" that is being screened in different settings.
