A different tune

A different tune

Welcome from Bisakha Sarker on behalf of Chaturangan

Dear Friends and Colleagues

On behalf of Chaturangan I greet you with a warm welcome.

It is heartening to see delegates from different parts of the country representing different professional interests, in Liverpool ,to discuss and debate and to observe and contemplate on different aspects of the artistic practice for the children that can contribute to the building of a better future.

I invite you today, to be in touch with that child inside you and go through the journey of making friends ,falling out ,being left on your own ,no one to play with or to chase ,giving in to self doubt and then the moment of regaining the self esteem and acceptance of the peer group . This is an everyday story that takes place in every playground as a part of the process of growing up .

As artists and the stakeholders of children’s provision it is our duty to find ways to support the child through this journey . by bringing experiences that can give hope and comfort . They should have the opportunity to grow into a world which is not only made of conflict and competition but of trust and harmony .

The experience of making A DIFFERENT TUNE is not totally unfamiliar to a child’s story .Falling out and making up has been a regular feature of this process. Being a partnership of a no of organisations and individuals at every step the project had to balance diverse interests and solve complex logistics. For me one of the success of today is to know that it is possible and collectively we can achieve something that is much more than our individual dreams . Without naming anyone individually I extend my thanks to all of them .

The seminar opens with the performance of A DIFFERENT TUNE which touches on to two important areas of education, the issue of social cohesion and the engagement with digital technology .The two sections of the seminar will separately address these two significant issues.

I hope that the seminar proceedings will show us the way forward.

Best wishes
